For our project we have decided that our topic will be about the carbon footprint of beef. Food is a big aspect of all of our lives and with that how do we get food? There has to be a way of getting food from the farm to the grocery store to us. All of this traveling leaves a carbon footprint! It isn't only the shipping of the meat, it is also the producing and care of the cows that add to this footprint. Our project is to raise awareness of this. Our environment is being affected by lots of things causing holes in our O-zone layer, temperatures to rise all over the world, irregular weather patterns, etc. Food, though, is something that hits home more closely to everyone. As for the visual aspect of this topic, we wanted to go with something more fun. People are consistently bombarded with negative news and information. People are more willing to listen and learn when they are not being put down. We will have cute cartoons (like Beef the Cow) and lighthearted graphics, along with r...
Your animation was very charming. The background, music, and character helped with the overall theme and content of the video. Overall, I feel that the information and graphs appeared and disappeared way too fast. It was difficult trying to comprehend the text because, as I was reading the information, the character would respond to the fact before I could understand it myself, causing my focus to direct to the character instead of reading the information. I feel that the information of each state would be more effective if viewed side by side. It’s difficult to understand the information as well because the voice-over isn’t explaining the information, but reacting to it instead. The font color also made the information difficult to read as well.
ReplyDeleteIan and Allie,
ReplyDeleteIt was creative and very entertaining to include a cow character in your presentation. I also think the background music and sound effects worked well. One of the biggest issues that stood out to me is that there was too much text on screen and it showed far too quickly. Some of the graphs were also difficult to see. Be careful not to overload viewers with too much information. The information designer's job is to simplify and get to the point so that the viewer can do less work, but still learn the most important points. Visual and audio cues are much more memorable than text. You did have a lot of good visuals, but some of them were reused or overlayed with large descriptions.
Ian and Allie, from the start, I think it was a unique touch to add the mouse in your video to make the viewer feel as though they are included and interacting with the screen. The graphics were appealing and having the character there to walk the user throughout the video made the audience feel a personal connection to the content. While I think it was a good choice to have the character, I felt myself staying focused on him and not the information that was being shown. There were some interesting graphs and other elements present that I did not feel I had enough time to look at and understand before they disappeared. Your project was well put together, and just needs some more focus on the information and data.
ReplyDeleteIan and Allie,
ReplyDeleteYour cow animation was adorable, and I really liked how you used the mouse to click on the information, it really gave the idea that the viewer was included in the experience. As for the information, it was a bit confusing to understand what the video was trying to say. The cow asked questions after the information was given, and the information flashed a bit too fast for the reader to read and comprehend in time. I would suggest making the text a bit smaller since it took up the whole screen, keep the graphs up longer, and go into more detail about the information. I am still a bit confused on what the video was about. I did like the music and cow mooing, and I really enjoyed that the cow talked. Overall, good job and cute video!
Hey Ian and Allie,
ReplyDeleteI think that the interaction works well with the entire topic of the information. I just have some suggestions for the interaction. I think you both should have made the charts yourself. I think that it will help bring the project together. I also think that having different options for the interaction will help you get more information on your project. Overall good job.
